In just six short verses, Psalm 13 takes us on a long journey of the soul. It begins with a cry of anguish: “How long, O Lord? Will you forget me forever?” But it ends with a song of praise: “I will sing to the Lord, because he has dealt bountifully with me.” And yet, there is no indication between the first verse and the last that the writer’s circumstances have changed. So why does his sigh become a song? How does his lament become praise?
