Throughout our tour of the Tabernacle, we’ve seen connections between the design and decoration of this sacred space and the creation narrative in Genesis. Both are described in a seven-part structure—seven days in Genesis and seven speeches in Exodus. The Tabernacle’s courtyard symbolized the unordered earth with its altar of uncut stones and enormous basin of water known as “the sea.” The two rooms of the Tabernacle represented the garden of Eden (the Holy Place), and beyond the curtain of the sky was the highest heaven where God was enthroned (the Most Holy Place).
